Welcome to Your Child’s First Classroom!

We provide your child with an excellent developmentally appropriate, play-based education. Our preschool is open from September to June and programming is also available during the summer for children from 18 months to 5 years of age.

About the School

The Employees’ Welfare Association is affiliated with the American Embassy in Tokyo.The Mitsui Gardens International Preschool was established in the 1970’s and is located in the eleven-acre park-like grounds of the Mitsui American Embassy Housing Compound, in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
Within the compound there is a large grassy field, which affords our children generous outdoor playspace, a playground, wading pool and a gym. The school is housed in three spacious classrooms on the ground level, facing a beautiful Japanese garden with ponds, waterfalls and small bridges and islands where one can observe birds and fish. The classrooms are air-conditioned and have private toileting facilities.

The Preschool exists for the benefit of American Embassy employees who are given priority on spaces available. Remaining openings are made available.

Our goals are to provide children with a wide variety of activities which encourage experimentation. We also strive to create a cooperative atmosphere where mutual respect is modeled and encouraged.
Our hope is that our children will be independent and confident. We also want them to be inquisitive and problem solving, able to to work cooperatively and ultimately, as adults, to contribute in positive ways to society.
